In fact when I developed septicemia in hospital after surgery I can honestly say that they saved my life. But antibiotics can also cause problems. When we take these antibiotics we are destroying not only the dangerous bacteria and microbiology that are doing us harm but we are also destroying the important bacteria and microbiology in our digestive system that are important for our health. So what can we do? Well luckily there are certain things you can do to help maintain the health of your digestive system. The two most important steps are 1. Consuming bone broths everyday as they help to heal the gut. 2. Then replenish the gut with lots of good bacteria by consuming fermented foods. Remember if you have any more questions about antibiotics, bone broths or fermented foods then please free to email me at mycrohnsdoctor@gmail.com or visit my Facebook Page at My Crohn's Doctor. The digestive complaints like bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, or abdominal pain that we crohnies suffer from are not only a nuisance, but they also make it hard to focus and enjoy activities during the day. These digestive problems that you suffer from also negatively affect your body’s ability to absorb nutrients from the food you eat. Follow these 6 Simple Steps to help improve your digestion naturally. 1. Stop eating sugar and refined carbohydrates. Sugar and refined carbohydrates tend to cause bloating and encourage the growth of unhealthy gut bacteria. Sugar in excess can also cause weight gain, mood swings and contribute to the development of diabetes. You don't want to suffer from anything extra. 2. Eliminate gluten. In my practice, I have seen digestion drastically improve with the elimination of gluten. This is especially true in people with inflammatory bowel disease. NOTE: That is you if you have Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis. Wheat, rye, and barley are the main grains that contain gluten, so try eating brown rice or quinoa as alternatives. I actually recommend avoiding all grains all together. 3. Eat probiotic foods. Include fermented and cultured foods that contain beneficial probiotic bacteria. These foods not only provide healthy bacteria, but they are also partially digested by the bacteria making them easier for you to digest. Probiotic bacteria may help prevent and treat diarrhea, constipation, gas and bloating. 4. Avoid overeating. The most obvious digestive complaints from overeating when you have Crohn's Disease are abdominal bloating, diarrhea and constipation. Make sure you eat small meals often and definitely DON'T OVEREAT AT NIGHT. Your body needs a chance to rest and repair. 5. Minimize Coffee and avoid highly Caffeinated Beverages. Coffee can be very harsh on your digestive tract and may cause or exacerbate diarrhea. If you are not willing to give up coffee, it’s best to drink coffee with food instead of on an empty stomach. As an alternative, drink more water, lemon water, or herbal teas. 6. Manage your Stress. Stress can have a very negative impact on your digestion. It sends some people running to the bathroom and slows digestion for others.Imagining adding in the problems you already have by suffering with Crohn's Disease. Psychological stress on the body has very physical manifestations, so using exercise, laughter, breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation to manage stress is essential. I also wanted to share with you a wonderful Meditation App you can Download to your phone. It is great for two reasons. 1. It is free. 2. It works. It is a fantastic way to help you deal with Stress.
