My 3 Favourite Drinks.Chronic diarrhea is a common symptom with individuals who have Crohn's. Now this is something we all know, right? However what you may not have known is that this diarrhea can increase your risk of being dehydrated and can also increase your risk of suffering from kidney stones. This makes keeping yourself hydrated extremely important. So how much should you drink? Well you want to drink at least eight glasses of water [or fluids] a day to stay hydrated. However the problem is that all fluids aren't created equal. The following are my 3 favourite drinks. There are my favourite not because they are necessarily delicious but I have chosen them for the benefit of not only keeping you hydrated but for the other good things they can do. Favourite Drink 1.The best way to keep hydrated is to drink water. Now I know that this may not seem exciting. Water can be boring for those of us that like to constantly eat and drink different things.[I am one of those] BUT water works harder to help you overcome the negative effects of Crohn’s symptoms. It is especially true when diarrhea strikes. During this time your fluid needs are even greater and water is simply the best. Favourite Drink 2.After a bout of severe diarrhea you may need a little more than just plain old water. It’s best to turn to products that contain added electrolytes. Coconut water — a natural source of electrolytes — will provide you with the answer. [It is delicious as well] What you need to avoid if you are selecting any fluid with added electrolytes is those sweetened with high fructose corn syrup or crystalline fructose, or those with artificial colouring. Favourite Drink 3.Now this one may be a surprise. Due to the fact that we are usually trying to at least maintain our weight [however if you are like I was I was always trying to get bigger] I think that Meal Replacement Shakes are a great thing. Now I am not talking about the ones full of everything artificial known to mankind but one that is healthy and won't cause your symptoms to flare up. These Meal Replacement Shakes shake will deliver concentrated nutrition in a calorie-dense drink. PERFECT if you can't or don't feel like eating because you are bloated or you have recovered from your diarrhea and need to put on some weight.
