When you have Crohn's Disease it can also be common to suffer from mouth ulcers. However mouth ulcers can be caused by a variety of reasons. It is important for you to find the cause of why you are suffering from them. Some of the main causes are
Because you suffer from crohn’s disease I have found that the most common cause is Vitamin B deficiency and obviously immune system dysfunction, poor digestive function and the big one – stress. So we need to tackle these areas of your health. I would recommend the following as things to do in order to cure your mouth ulcers. 1. Supplement your diet with a B vitamin plus vitamin C complex, I would also recommend adding zinc as well. (I THINK TAKING A COMBO OF THE VIT B, C AND ZINC WORKS THE BEST) 2. Taking Digestive bitters/enzymes as they can help improve digestion 3. Rinse mouth with warm filtered salt water before bed each night after cleaning your teeth 4. Using a mixture of oil of cloves and tea tree oil 50/50 can help with the pain and infection caused by mouth ulcers. Apply a very small dab onto the ulcer 5. I would also recommend eating more red and yellow vegetables, non-citrus fruit, lean meats and seafood. Repeated attacks could also be a sign of being run down. Ensure you undertake moderate exercise, get plenty of fresh air and adequate sleep. You should also avoid spicy foods and any food known to cause problems, and also work on ways to reduce stress. Vitamin D plays a very important role in regulating our immune response. Low levels of this vitamin enable disease progression in the body while adequate levels not only decrease your risk of disease but also helps to fight off diseases already in place. We know Crohn’s Disease is an inflammatory condition which may be triggered by our immune system so vitamin D can play a useful role. Vitamin D is also important for bone health. Due to Crohn's Disease playing havoc with our bone health it is important to maintain our Vitamin D levels. This is because Vitamin D is absorbed in the small intestine. But changes in the small intestine due to having Crohn’s as well as from surgery to remove parts of the small intestine to treat your Crohn’s may cause your body to not be able to absorb enough of the vitamin. This can then lead to a vitamin D deficiency. We can also attribute bone loss to reduced calcium absorption, and poor bone mineralization. Our bodies can make Vitamin D naturally through sunlight but with the dangers of too much sun exposure I have included my recommendations for getting enough sun and not causing any other harm. Now before you all go crazy I am not telling you to expose yourself to enough sunlight so you burn or get sun damage. I am merely telling you to get enough sunlight to allow your body to make Vitamin D. How to get enough Vitamin D from the Sun. So aim for 15 minutes at least two times a week. Make sure you expose your face, arms, hands and back. Also believe it or not the best time to expose your skin is between 10 am and 2 pm. Be careful to stay on the safe side of burning. This vitamin is also important is it has many mood lifting benefits. It simply makes you feel better, be more productive at work and at play. See I told you it was going to be out there. So take the time each day to enjoy the sun. I always feel so much better. It is like having a dose of happiness delivered right to your door. Now if you know you are LOW in Vit D you always have the option of taking a supplement. This is the Vit D supplement I take everyday BUT at the moment it is only available in Australia and New Zealand. Sorry everyone else (BUT how great is it that for once we have such an amazing product that nobody else has :) ) This is why I love it. ABOUT D3 PLUS 1. Now before anyone gets excited I haven't said that these 3 foods will cure your Crohn's Disease. Instead I believe that they will help relieve some of the symptoms associated with this horrible disease. So here are the 3 foods that you should eat and I have also listed the benefits of including these 3 foods in your diet. Lemongrass Lemongrass has been found, through research in Japan, to help ease some of the inflammation and irritation associated with Crohn’s Disease. It is also easy to add to your diet as it is very recipe friendly as a lot of Asian dishes, particularly Thai food, use lemongrass in their ingredient lists. You can also get this in pill form. Turmeric Turmeric is believed to be anti-inflammatory and has been used to treat inflammation for a long time. It can be added to stews and curries but because of the implications of eating spicy food it is better to consume it in capsule form. Curcumin is the clinical name of turmeric. Green Tea Green tea has many healing properties. It is believed to reduce the inflammation associated with crohn’s disease. Some studies have even shown that green tea can reduce the risk of developing colon cancer. So make sure you boil up a cup of green tea and enjoy it hot or turn it into a refreshing iced tea by adding mint. We already know that Crohn's Disease is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). So it makes sense that if we reduce the inflammation in our bodies we will have less problems with Crohn's Disease. Right? Of it does. Less inflammation will obviously equate to less symptoms and less symptoms means a happier and healthier you. So reducing the inflammation in our bodies is something you definitely want to do if you have Crohn's Disease. The obvious questions is - "How can I do this?" Well the good news is that diet, exercise and lifestyle changes can be powerful tools against inflammation. Today I am going to share 4 things that you can do to reduce the inflammation in your body. Look out for more information later in the week. Step 1. Balance your Omega Fats Eating too many inflammation-promoting omega-6 fats (found in vegetable oils, such as sunflower and corn, and processed and fast food made with them) and not consuming nearly enough inflammation-soothing omega-3 fats (found in salmon, tuna, flaxseeds, walnuts and olive oils) increases inflammation in the body. To better balance your omega fats, opt for as much fresh, unprocessed food as possible, swap your omega-6-rich corn or sunflower oil for omega-3-packed oil and load your plate with omega-3-rich foods. Eating just one healthy source of omega-3 fatty acids every day will mean you will be doing good things for the inflammation levels in your body. Step 2. Enjoy a Massage A massage isn’t just a treat it can be part of staying healthy. Receiving a 45-minute massage can greatly lower levels of two key inflammation-promoting hormones. It may also lower stress hormones as well. Either way, these inflammation-lowering results can be seen after just one massage. I make sure I have a massage every week. It really does help. Step 3. Eat your Greens There’s a lot of evidence that people with high inflammatory markers often have low magnesium levels and green leafy vegetables are rich in magnesium. Eating more magnesium-rich foods can help lower your inflammation. If you have trouble eating your greens try drinking them in a smoothie. The health benefits will be the same. Step 4. Keep Stress at Bay Stress increases your blood pressure and heart rate, therefore making your blood vessels work harder. If you experience a lot of stress and don't handle it very well then you’re simply pounding on them more often and creating damage. If that damage happens over and over, inflammation persists. So learn to meditate, take regular walks in nature and breathe deeply. you will quickly see the results.
