Fermented foods have been around for thousands of years. However recently they have been making a comeback, especially fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi.
These foods have many health promoting properties and can become part of your Essential Tool Kit for helping you maintain your gut health. This is important for everyone BUT especially important if you have Crohn's Disease.
Fermented Foods put those live, good-for-you organisms back where they belong – in your gut!
WHY ARE THEY GOOD FOR YOU?
They help Fight off Disease.
It’s estimated that 70% – 80% of your immune system is in your gut. Feed it poorly and your gut will be left with a weak defence system. It can easily be overwhelmed by bad bacteria, is wide open to disease-triggering inflammation and plagued by gastrointestinal ills ( gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, etc.).
If you introduce good bacteria into the gastric mix via fermented foods, you’ll enable your gut to crush those opportunistic invaders and disease-triggering inflammation, long before they can gain the upper hand.
A healthy, balanced gut can send illness packing.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD i HAVE THEM IN MY DIET?
Twice a Day to Strengthen your Gut.
Start by incorporating small servings of fermented foods once a day building up to adding them twice a day. So you can either toss fermented veggies like beets or sauerkraut into salads, enjoy them on their own or as a side dish or, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can consider adding a spoonful or two to your morning smoothie.
